Advanced Interpreting Legislation

Take your expertise in interpreting laws to the next level with the Advanced Interpreting Legislation workshop. This interactive, exercise- and discussion-based workshop is designed for administrative justice professionals familiar with the modern method of interpretation who want to build on that foundation.

The workshop focuses on:

  • Tackling complex challenges, such as unclear or conflicting legal language.
  • Applying the modern method to advanced scenarios, including legislation and treaties.
  • Improving skills in analyzing complex legal text while considering historical and cultural contexts.

Before the workshop, learners will complete an online primer to refresh key concepts and ensure everyone starts with the same base knowledge.

During the workshop, learners will use a workbook filled with practical exercises and engage in discussions on real-world tribunal issues, such as interpreting laws on environmental protection, workplace safety, and Indigenous treaties.

After the workshop, learners will complete an evaluation based on a practical assignment that tests their ability to interpret legislation in a real-life scenario.

Whether you’re a decision-maker, advocate, or investigator, this workshop will give you the confidence and skills to tackle even the toughest interpretive challenges.
