The Foundation of Administrative Justice is seeking candidates for our Board of Directors.
If you would like to give back to the administrative law community, find governance interesting, and want to learn what it means to be a director for a well-esteemed non-profit organization, then this opportunity is for you!
We are looking for a diverse board with a variety of skills and experiences. Candidates should be:
- committed to the Foundation’s vision, mission, and values,
- comfortable and able to participate in virtual meetings, and
- inspired to move the Foundation forward.
We are focused on expanding our asynchronous learning, risk management, diversity, equity, and inclusion practices, and governance. This is a volunteer opportunity. It is a two (2) year term starting April 30, 2025.
There are six (6) positions available:
- three (3) organizational members, and
- three (3) individual members.
A director who represents an organizational member must work for an employer that holds a Platinum or Silver membership. A director who represents an individual member must have an affiliate membership.

What does the Board do?
- Build and oversee the Foundation’s vision, mission, values, and strategic direction,
- operate under a policy governance model, and
- work to advance and promote training and other events.
The Board is committed to fulfilling the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization by maintaining the highest standards of educational excellence, to assure fairness and procedural expertise in the delivery of administrative justice training. Read more….
How often does the Board meet?
Board meetings are held four (4) times annually via Zoom. The meetings typically start at 9:00 am (Mountain Time) and last about three (3) hours. Directors are expected to attend each meeting.
An orientation session for newly elected or appointed directors may be virtual or in person (Edmonton) and typically lasts two (2) to three (3) hours.
What committee work is involved?
Directors serve on at least one (1) committee of their choosing. The committees meet virtually every few months for around one (1) hour. The current standing committees are:
- Executive Committee
- Finance Committee
- Strategic Planning and Risk Management
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Ad hoc committees also arise. All committees are hands-on, and members may draft and develop reports based on the purpose of the committee, its area of focus, outcome, and deliverables.
