Presenting Cases Before Tribunals

Recommended for: Advocates, tribunal staff, and lawyers expanding their practice or anyone who appears before a tribunal.

Preparing an effective case can go a long way toward achieving a successful outcome. Learners in this hands-on course will gain tips to stay organized, practice making clear opening and closing statements, and discover what matters most to decision-makers. Using practice guides and forms, learners will apply these skills to become better at planning for presentations, anticipating procedural or other problems, and adapting as needed. The goal is to become a better, more confident advocate. Format: A combination of lectures, demonstrations, a mock hearing, and large and small group exercises.

Prerequisite: To attend this course you must have taken the Principles of Administrative Justice course.

This course intends to:

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • prepare a plan for a presentation.
  • organize your materials so that you can present them easily.
  • identify potential questions for the evidence.
  • prepare and present an opening statement for your case.
  • identify the key elements of a closing argument for your case.
  • evaluate what further training you might need to become a better advocate.
